West Kingsdown FC v Southborough Saturday Firsts FC – Saturday 1st May 2021 – K Sports Ground

This Sevenoaks and District Premier League clash was played at the K Sports stadium in Ditton, Maidstone.

3G pitch and Covered Grandstand seating alongside a sports and social club at this really well resourced ground.

K Sports play at step 5/6 in the Southern Counties East League, with their facilities reflecting this, and West Kingsdown are also based at the ground with the game being played on the 3G main pitch.

The Sevenoaks and District Premier League prior to kick off showed West Kingsdown in 8th place with Southborough FC reserves just two points ahead in 6th place.

The game started well with Southborough taking the lead in the 4th minute with a good finish from a player in space on the left side of the box

The game then swung from end to end. Both sides had openings and chances as it became apparent there were more goals still in this game.

This period was fought in midfield as both teams looked to create chances, often trying one pass too many.
Both defences needed to stay alert as the teams pushed for a key goal.

In the 21st minute West Kingsdown’s number 8, scored a well deserved equaliser, with a great goal from 20 yards flying past the keeper into the net.

The rest of the first half was played out with some tough tackling and chances at both ends. The referee and his team did well keeping the play flowing and getting nearly all decisions right, despite some loud protests from the West Kingsdown bench.

The second half opened with chances at either end, but it was West Kingsdown who went ahead on 55 minutes with a fine finish from the number 27.

The game then entered a period where both sides pushed hard to gain a goal. Southborough sought the equaliser and West Kingsdown wanted to create a two goal gap, that would allow them to feel confident of the victory.

Southborough threw everything forward upto the last minute.

At the final whistle West Kingsdown walked away with an entertaining 2-1 victory. Both teams played right upto the whistle and finished the day knowing they had left everything on the pitch.
