I enjoyed a welcome return to watching football on a gloriously sunny Sunday April morning. Phoenix Sports Club Stadium is a nice venue for watching football, with lots of local free street parking. Phoenix Sports, who play in green, have senior team in the Isthmian League South East Division.m (Currently Step 4 of the non league pyramid) and this was a league outing for their Under 18s squad.

The game was a return fixture of one in October last year when Folkestone won 3-0 at home.

The first half started furiously, with one way traffic and Phoenix, playing in green, were 5-0 up by half time. The quality of finishing, was of a high standard, with chipped lobs and one penalty drilled with aplomb, into the left hand corner of the net.

The beleagured Folkestone squad became frustrated and there was a lot of in-team squabbling as the game looked to be stretching away from them.
At half time some changes were made and the Folkestone team returned after the break with a fresh sense of purpose. The passing improved and Folkestone put some pressure on the Phoenix goal for the first 20 minutes of the half.

As the game moved into the last quarter however, the class of the Phoenix team, who passed beautifully and seemed to know where each of their team mates would be, shone through and in the end they scored a goal to make it 6-0 with 15 minutes of the game remaining.
Folkestone lost a defender who suffered an ankle injury before the Phoenix Sports side broke away to secure a 7-0 victory with a last minute clinical finish.

Both sides fought well and this was a great game to launch my return to watching competitive football. The Phoenix Sports ground is a good venue to watch football and well worth a visit.
