Tonight a last minute decision brought me to Horsham’s Camping World Community Stadium to see the FA Vase 1st round proper fixture between Roffey FC, of the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division and Kings Langley FC of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

Roffey FC has entered an exciting new era for the 2026/27 season, marked by a temporary relocation to groundshare at Horsham FC’s Fusion Aviation Community Stadium due to pitch issues at their traditional home. Known affectionately by their nickname The Boars, the team is competing well in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division. Under the tactical leadership of manager Naim Rouane, who took the reins ahead of the campaign with a reputation for implementing a distinct, attractive style of play, the club has shown strong form, sitting comfortably with 10 victories from their opening 15 matches across all competitions.

A major catalyst for their strong performances has been the return of fans’ favourite Jordan Mase, who currently leads the squad’s goal-scoring charts with an impressive tally of 10 goals in just 14 appearances. Providing excellent attacking support is Stanley Berry, who has proved highly efficient by netting 5 goals in his 8 games so far. Backed by Rouane’s vision and a heavily refreshed squad, The Boars look well-equipped to sustain a highly competitive push at Step 5 as they navigate this unique chapter in the club’s history.

Kings Langley FC, affectionately known as “The Kings” or “Lango”, have put together a solid and competitive start to their 2026/27 campaign in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. Currently sitting 8th in the league table after nine matches, they have secured 16 points with an encouraging record of five wins, one draw, and three losses. Playing their home matches at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium, the team has found visual rhythm and good consistency, picking up vital victories against opponents like Risborough Rangers (2-1) and Cockfosters (2-1), though they look to bounce back from recent narrow stumbles.

The squad is currently operating under the experienced guidance of First Team Manager Steve Heath, whose popular return to the dugout has provided the club with strong leadership and continuity. On the pitch, captain and influential attacker Kieran Turner has been leading by example, consistently topping the club’s performance power rankings and establishing himself among the squad’s primary goal contributors with vital, match-winning displays. Alongside Turner, the Kings have found regular attacking threats and crucial goals from players like Edu Toiny Pendred and centre-back Jamie Ovington, driving a balanced team effort as they progress through the league calendar and push forward into the FA Vase.

The game started with Roffey FC looking the most tenacious in the tackle and the more dangerous going forward. With just eight minutes on the clock, a Bailey Moro effort struck the foot of the Kings Langley post.

Roffey took the lead with twenty two minutes on the clock, when Bailey Moyo found space inside the Kings Langley penalty area to fire home putting the home side ahead 1-0.

The remainder of the half saw Kings Langley force their way back into the the match. They held possession better and created chances, however at the break it was the Boars who went in with a single goal advantage.

With 65 minutes on the clock Kings Langley FC were back level when PJ Christie broke the offside trap fooling the Roffey defence and my filming, to lob the keeper and make it 1-1.

The remainder of the half saw both sides throw everything into the game but with no further goals resulting. That sent the game into penalties to decide who progressed into the next round of the FA Vase.

The penalty shoot out saw the visitors secure a fine away win and launched some loud celebrations. the decent Friday night crowd left having seen a really entertaining cup match, which either team could have won.
