I took advantage of a trip to Brussels, with a friend, to see this women’s Superleague Vrouwenvoetbal fixture at Gemeentelijk Sportstadion, at Zaventem, right on the edge of Brussels Airport.

The ground has a modern clubhouse and covered seating all down the length of one side of the pitch. A major sound system, putting many English professional grounds to shame and a steady supply of electro versions of classic songs, which kept us feeling warm as we sat awaiting kick off!! (Much needed as the wind factor made the temperature feel like it was creeping back towards mid-winter scales!

After the resumption of play in the 65th minute, Anderlecht’s Abi Thornton scored, after a fine cross from Buabadi, to put the home team 2-0 ahead.
On 75 minutes it was 2-1 when KAA Gent pulled one back, against the run of play, with Bodil Van Den Heuvil finishing with aplomb.

There were more chances for Anderlecht before the final whistle but no further goals. At full time it was Anderlecht who walked away with the three points.
