This Hertfordshire Senior County League tie was played in warm sunshine on the FA Cup final Saturday. I came for my first visit to Garden Walk with an old friend, and found a well resourced and welcoming club.

The pitch was grass and looked to be in good condition. The ground boasts two covered standing areas and two seated grandstands. There is a clubhouse and small office facility. Entrance was reasonable at £3 and a crowd of around 50 was in attendance.

The Hertfordshire Senior County League table showed Royston Town reserves in third place, coming into the fixture, with Chipperfield Corinthians in twelfth place.

After 10 minutes, the first goal went in for Royston, with some fine build up play leading to a neat finish.

On 30 minutes a second was stabbed home by Royston Town’s number 9. Chipperfield Corinthian’s players looked dejected.
After a further 15 minutes of Royston pressure, the two teams went in with the scores set at 2-0, at half-time.

In the 68th minute, Chipperfield Corinthians bundled the ball home, against the balance of play, to make it 2-1.

Just seven minutes later, in the 75th minute, the Chipperfield number 16, poked home after a goal mouth scramble to make the scores level, at 2-2.

The game was then closely fought before in the 90th minute, Royston Town reserves secured the winning goal, making it 3-2.
This was an entertaining and high scoring match, unlike the later FA cup final, which Royston did really well to win.
All good stuff! J
