This was the Southern Counties East League, Division 1, play-off semi-final, between the home side, who were newcomers to the league this season and the well established visiting team, with the winners going forward to a final play off to try and join Stansfeld, in securing promotion to the SCEFL Premier Division.

Larkfield & New Hythe had finished third in the league table, just five points ahead of Snodland Town. Both sides had scored a high number of goals, with Jake Beecroft top scoring for Larkfield & New Hythe with 11 goals and Daniel Ashton for Snodland Town with 13.

A big crowd, of 501, saw a very tight and cagey first half. Snodland Town played the more expansive football early on, with Larkfield & New Hythe preferring to opt for the long ball.

As the half wore on, there were close chances for both sides, but at the whistle the scores remained tied at 0-0.

The second half was just as cagey, but slowly Larkfield & New Hythe began to dominate the play, with Charlie Smith causing problems for the Snodland defence.

Then, in the 71st minute, Jack Bray hit a shot, from 20 yards out, with his left foot, and it flew past Shaun Wickes, in the Snodland goal, to put Larkfield & New Hythe 1-0 up and send the home crowd wild.

For the last twenty minutes of the game, Larkfield & New Hythe controlled the football and when the whistle blew there were huge celebrations from their players, coaching staff and supporters.

The play-off final will take place on Saturday, with Larkfield & New Hythe playing against either Sutton Athletic or Tooting Bec FC, who play their semi-final tomorrow night.

Patience, perseverance and rugged determination here. Good game Matt 👏
