The drive over to East Grinstead was delayed because of a crash on the M25 but the ground was simple to find once I reached the A22. I was able to park on a road opposite the driveway to the stadium which took me on foot, past the rifle range and into the club’s car park.

Entrance was £10 and once inside the club had a good bar and restroom facilities. It also boasted two covered stands, one for seated fans and one for standing, alongside a refreshment stall. The ground holds 3000 with what looks like seating for 250-300. Three sides of the ground are just paved and open with trees flanking the pitch side. The ground benefits from a grass pitch, which looked to be in very good condition, as well as having six stanchion floodlights.

The league table in the Isthmian League, South East Division, shows that Faversham are in mid table, while East Grinstead are hovering in the relegation zone and desperately need the points from today’s home fixture.

Within the first five minutes a poorly timed tackle by East Grinstead’s Ryan Huckle and a scuffle broke out. The referee brought the game under control and issued a card to Huckle.

The first half an hour saw Faversham with much of the play but the best early chances fell to East Grinstead Town’s number nine Omar Folkes.

Despite all the attacking play neither side could finish any chances and at the break the teams went in goalless.

The second half saw some good approach play for Faversham, particularly driven by Lewis Chambers, however they were unable to convert the pressure into clear cut chances.

Midway through the half Faversham found their touch and saw a good chance saved by Dan Smith in the Grinstead goal and another chance hit the post.

On 75 minutes the substitute, Aidan Brown, broke clear for East Grinstead and beat the keeper with finesse, to make the score 1-0 to the home team.

East Grinstead held out well for the final 15 minutes with forwards Omar Folkes and Aidan Brown running non stop to ensure they kept the Faversham back line under pressure. At the final whistle it was East Grinstead who left with a much needed three points, to keep their survival hopes alive and send the crowd of 168 home happy.
