Hamworthy Recreation Reserves v Bournemouth Electric FC – Wednesday 11th September 2024 – The Hamworthy Club

It had been a cold week and I’d watched a game the night before where I actually ended up huddled inside my coat and didn’t feel any desire to blog!! Tonight I decided to brave the unseasonably chilly conditions and head to Hamworthy to watch a Dorset Premier League cup fixture, between Hamworthy Recreation Reserves and Bournemouth Electric FC.

Main stand at Hamworthy Sports Ground.

The Hamworthy Sports ground has plenty of free parking and provides a nice clubhouse with refreshment and bar facilities. The ground is accessed outside and I was able to get entrance and a badge to add to my Dad’s collection, for £8.

The season has begun with mixed form for both sides, with Hamworthy Recreation FC Reserves occupying ninth place in the division, with three wins and three defeats from their opening fixtures. Goals have come largely from Charlie Harries (3 goals) and Matthew Kerse (2 goals). Managers Charlie Richards and Andy Gilbert, would have been glad that their side’s run of six away matches had ended, although after the poor start made with two defeats, there will have been some promise for them in that their team had won three of the following four games.

Bournemouth Electric FC have 11 points from seven games and sat in seventh place coming into tonight’s match. Matthew Charalambous (4 goals), Dillon King (3 goals) and Alastair Williams (2 goals) have led the way in the scoring thus far. Tonight’s match would have given manager Mike Artwell a chance to get his team to play without the pressure of league points at stake and he would have been hopeful of securing an away victory.

Handshakes before kick off.

The game started well for the home side, with Hamworthy Recreation FC creating all the early pressure with some well paced attacking passes allowing them to create chances.

After six minutes Hamworthy Recreation were ahead when a fine header from Matt Kerse, after a well placed cross by Will Lippiat, put them 1-0 up.

1-0

The remainder of the half saw Bournemouth Electric FC create a range of chances, which their forward line were unable to convert. Hamworthy Recreation FC Reserves always looked dangerous when they got the ball forward, however at the break, the teams went in with the home side holding onto a 1-0 lead.

Within three minutes of the restart Hamworthy Recreation FC Reserves were 2-0 ahead, after a clinical finish by Charlie Harries.

2-0

Bournemouth Electric FC found their feet and came back at Hamworthy with a series of attacks, without really seriously threatening the home team’s goal. Then with 5 minutes left Hamworthy Recreation FC Reserves put the game safely out of reach, with a well taken third to make it 3-0, when Dan Reeks attacked on the right hand side of the penalty area to create a second goal of the game for Matt Kerse.

3-0

As the game moved into added time Bournemouth Electric FC pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 with a neat headed finish by their number 11 who had made a good impression since coming on as a late substitute.

3-1

At full time it was Hamworthy Recreation FC Reserves who deservedly progressed into the next round. This was an entertaining game between two honest sides at a really warm and welcoming club.
